HARIN
HARIN stands for Helping AwaReness In Nature. It was founded by my friend, Irene Son and me. After realizing the harmful consequences of jean manufacturing, which include extensive water usage, the release of harmful chemicals from dyeing processes, and significant carbon emissions, we became specifically invested in sustainably upcycling denim fabrics to mitigate these negative effects. we started brainstorming simple ways to minimize waste from worn-out jeans and repurpose them into something new and usable once again. Irene designed and created the items featured in our workshops, while I dedicated my efforts to teaching children about sustainability and environmental conservation.Because the younger generation will most directly face climate change, we decided that elementary school students would be the initial target audience. By instilling environmental responsibility from a young age, we believe that they will be able to shift mindsets and make sustainability something children are excited about.
To educate younger generations about creating a more sustainable future by transforming old or unwanted items into new, useful products redefining waste as a resource. By blending sustainability with fun and creativity, we hope to nurture a mindset where sustainability becomes an enjoyable way of life starting from a young age.

About HARIN
HARIN is a student-run non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that aims to educate younger generations in creating a more sustainable future. Through fun, engaging, and actionable “baby steps,” we teach children about fashion upcycling. Our workshops are designed to ignite creativity and raise awareness about mindful sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Our Workshops
-
Concepts of mindful sustainability and the importance of environmental stewardship.
-
An educational segment on the environmental impact of fast fashion manufacturing.
-
A hands-on sewing activity where students upcycle denim into reusable items that they get to take home by the end of our workshop.
-
By providing this activity, we hope to encourage students to take continued action towards sustainable practices. In an age of climate change, this workshop represents a timely addition to students’ regular curriculum. Furthermore, it instills important life skills like thriftiness and resourcefulness from a young age.
